May is Better Hearing and Speech Month (BHSM). It is time to raise awareness about communication disorders and available treatment options that can improve the quality of life for those who experience problems speaking or hearing.
This year’s theme, “Building Connections,” is just perfect in the new normal where effective communication plays a vital role in establishing rapport both offline and online.
You may have created your own plans to celebrate the BHSM. However, if you are looking for more ways, check out American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s resources.
As we raise awareness, we also want to acknowledge all our incredibly hardworking SLP’s, SLPA‘s, and Audiologists. The pandemic has quite shifted our working norms, and it was undeniably challenging at first! Many of you have burned the candles at both ends to go the extra mile reaching our special ed students. We are more than grateful for all that you do during these unprecedented times. If you are not an SLP, SLPA, or Audiologists but have friends or colleagues, I encourage you to take a moment to pat them on the back for selflessly doing their work!
